The indefatigable Canary is the official mascot of William Allen High School. When the present Main building opened in 1916, Allentown High School colors were yellow and blue. Soon after, faculty and students began producing a literary journal entitled The Canary and Blue. This “Canary” - denoting one of the school colors - naturally suggested the popular bird, which became our mascot. Local legend holds the brave canary to be the only bird to fly safely through a hurricane, in its hope to beat perennial rival Bethlehem's Liberty "Hurricanes."
